Episode: “Rockport Stinger”

Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to show you a specialty shot called the Rockport stinger. The thing about the Rockport stinger is you can only use it in two conditions. Windy conditions and when the fairway is really firm. Let me show you how to set up for it. First of all you have to make sure the ball is teed up correctly.
Your normal height on a tee shot is not going to work, that’s normal height. What’s going to work is your going to have to tee the ball down about half as much. Then next thing you’re going to do is your going to walk up on it and make sure the ball position is more centered in your stance.
Then finally you have to make sure that your shoulders are going to be level to the ground, parallel to the ground. The regular way to set up in a driver is like this, this isn’t going to work because it is going to launch the ball up in the air. What we are trying to do is hit the ball low in to the wind and make sure it gets on the ground and runs, utilizing the firm fairways. Let me show you how it works.
Notice that height, nice and low. Into the wind, really under the wind, hits the ground running, its unbelievable. That’s what I am talking about.

Key points:
1. Tee ball at half height
2. Ball in middle of stance
3. Shoulders level with ground
