Episode “Punch Shot”
Joe Beck: That’s not what I am talking about. In this situation we need to keep the ball low. We are trying to hit a punch shot. We want to learn how to ht a punch shot under the tree that gets us away from trouble, on to the green. Let me show you how to do it.
The most important thing here is choosing the correct loft. If you have too much loft in this shot, you are going to hit it right into the tree. If you have the correct amount of loft, which again is going to help you deloft it this way that is going to help you hit the ball low and get the proper results that you are looking for.
So remember take away the loft. Here is too much loft. Here is correct loft, this would be delofted. The idea would be instead of using your sand wedge, use your eight iron. I am going got show you how to hit a punch shot. The punch shot is going to stay low through these trees and give you a chance to score. Let me show you how it works.
You want to make sure the ball position is back in your stance. Then you get set up on it; put a little weight on your front foot. And as you go through impact, as you go through the hitting area, you want to make sure your hands stay forward like this. This is to keep the ball flight down ad keep the club just a little bit delofted and also keep the ball on the right line.
That’s what I am talking about.
Keypoints:
1. Ball Back
2. Weight Forward
3. Hands forward
4. Hands ahead through impact
