Don’t get me wrong, Backpack’s not for everybody – it’s about as random as it comes – but it’s definitely a breath of fresh air in the sketch comedy landscape where lame writing and tired clichés flourish.

Sketchfest: Weekend 2 Round-Up
Time Out Chicago - 01.14.08
They came to town via Austin amidst huge buzz from the sketch community, so I was pumped to see what these boys could bring. If you were hanging around the fest later Friday night, you already know that I thought this show was phenomenal. At the risk of sounding like a Rolling Stone movie review, I’ll add that I laughed the entire time. Hard.

Take the absurdity of Monty Python and mix it with the wit and hilarity of Kids in the Hall and you've got yourself the makings of Backpack Picnic. The Austin, Texas-based sketch comedy troupe, best known for its top-rated Internet shorts on onnetworks.com, will perform as part of the Chicago Sketchfest.

Best male mascara I've seen in a long time.
Yeah. Sorry...
sorry!!!
Shit! Love it! guy with the hat looked like he really got hit
We did 5 takes and used take 3. When we set up in the morning we had beautiful overcast weather but by the time we were ready to shoot the sun had come out. We spent a lot of time waiting for clouds to come but eventually gave up on that idea and just shot it in the bright sun. And that is the end of my story.
Best one yet. Let us know how many takes it took on the opening shot.
Walk and Talk...how Sorkin of you.
how many takes before you got the final one here? incredibly difficult, but seems like the boys here really did a good job of rolling through it. the setup time makes it a great skit.
austin style? nah, just damn funny, methinks.
>>>FUNNY<<< I'm really impressed with the long walk & talk - thats very difficult to accomplish.
A bit of a long setup but still worth the wait. Congrats on getting picked up for 3 more months. People are starting to tune in and spread the word.
Austin style--like a Linklater movie, just a couple of people talking. How many other sketch troupes can you think of with the patience to do a long shot like this?
Different style than the others, but still funny and entertaining.
Ha. I really like this. The style of humor is something of a departure from the other sketches, while still retaining the love of the absurd.
It really builds nicely.
