Transcript: Drafting Quarterbacks and Tight Ends
The Five Minute Drill
Episode “Drafting quarter backs and tight ends.”
Cecil Lammey: Reliable quarter backs and tight ends are the keys to your fantasy team success.
Sigmund Bloom: Today on the drills final draft special, we will tell you the hits and the misses.
Cecil Lammey: You know the drill.
Male announcer: Its time for fantasy footballs five minute drill. Quarter backed by Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom.
Cecil Lammey: Roddick Correl was given every opportunity to win the starting job for the Chiefs but he didn’t do it. IT falls to Damon Huard, who we see as an emergency only quarter back. Dante Culpepper has looked pretty good this preseason. Now Jamarcus Russell is still holding out, which means when Culpepper is named the starter for the Raiders, it should be his job for the entire season.
Tom Brady will be rock solid in 2007, this offseason the patriots added Wes Walker, Dante Stalworth, and oh yeah, Randy mos. He didn’t have these weapons last year and was still excellent. Obviously still this season we see Brady finishing in the top two at fantasy quarterback.
John Kitna is going to have a sore throwing arm. Why, because mad Mike Kartz hates to run the football, and with a back like Tatum Bell, maybe that is not such a bad thing. The Lions offense is chocked full of weapons so expect Kitna to lead the league in passing yards, passing attempts, and possibly passing touchdowns.
Here is an impression for you, AAAAHHHH! That will be Vince Young this season; I mean he has nobody to throw to. The wide receivers are nondescript, a bunch of bums if you ask me. He is the only option for the Titan's offense, which means defenses will game plan specifically to stop him. And they will figure him out.
Marc Faletti: Cut, Cut. I have got an impression for you. My name is Cecil Lammey and I like to talk loud and hate on Vince Young. Well I am going to tell you how it will really be for Vince Young this year.
Vince Young is already Elite; he was a top five quarter back in any system in last six weeks of last year. Meanwhile Drew Wade and Bobby Bennett are fine, but they won’t be missed because they are number threes at best in this league. Unless you believe that video game covers can tell the future. Make Vince Young your quarterback this year.
Cecil Lammey: Easy there Faletti, my god you’re just jealous of the do. Producers will do anything to get on camera. Let’s get back to the show and talk about Eli Manning. A guy that we al know is way too inconsistent to be an every week fantasy starter. Even Tiki Barber said he will not take a leadership role with the Giants. Let someone else in your league fall in love with this guy.
Vernon Davis is an absolute beast. The guy has to be the finest athlete at the tight end position. This off season him and Alex Smith have been working on building a better report and remember he finished 2006 on a high note which means he will carry that confidence over to 2007.
When we talked to Megan manifold of the Houston chronicle she said that Owen Daniels would be the number two option in the Texans passing game. Gary Kubiak and Matt Shaub love this kid and he could wind up the fantasy season as a top ten fantasy tight end.
Kellin Winslow is a soldier, but he might as well as live in the infirmary. This guy had off season surgery again. Meaning he is behind in learning the new offense. Charlie Fry had a lock on him in 2006. But you don’t have a lock onto him in 2007.
Sigmund Bloom: Antonio Gates and Payton manning are the best choices for their positions. But it probably not a good thing if their not on your fantasy team. Dominating your draft is all about finding your value. If you take one of these guys early, you have to pass on the value later.
The best case scenario quarterback is to get one of the franchises in the fifth or sixth round. If that doest work then there are plenty of quarterbacks that have just as much upside but more risk than you can get in the seventh or eighth. Once you have addressed a quarterback. It is time to get one of the last few of our top seven tight ends.
Don’t panic if you don’t have a quarterback by the ninth round. Just double up on a committee of a proven veteran and a young gun with upside, then you play the matchups until your number one emerges. If you do wait to take a tight end this range, you might get lucky. We have seen Jason Witten falling to the triple digit picks.
We didn’t forget about kickers and defenses. But you can until your final two rounds of your draft. We like Orlando Maurey and Jason Hanson, because they kick indoors more than half the time and they clan up after high octane offenses.
Two defenses that you can get late are Greenbay and Dallas. Greenbay helped a lot of people with their leagues last year with their hot finish. And Wade Phillips is going to turn Dallas into one of their most attack oriented defenses in the league.
That wraps up the drills draft specials. If you want to catch us faster on Wednesday, make sure to subscribe to us on ITunes, catch us at fiveminutedrill.tv, and also at footballguys.com.
